Instructors

joseph pic Hi! My name is Joseph Coker, or as my students call me, “Sensei Joseph”. I am 25 years old and come from Charleston, South Carolina.

I started my karate training when I was very young, studying first under my father (Dale Coker 7th dan) and later in my teen years under my father and my older brother (Bradley Coker 3rd dan). I guess you could say karate training and teaching runs in my family.

I earned my blackbelt in Wado-Ryu karate when I was 15, and later, went on to graduate from the Japan Karate Institute Instructor Academy. After graduating from the instructor academy, I began my career as a karate instructor, first as an assitant, and later as a full fledged instructor.

In my own training, I have had the priviledge to be trained by US karate coaches Ridgely Abele, and Tommy Hood. As a competitor, I have fought on a national and international level, winning a bronze medal at the AAU National championships in 2004.

In my own life, the skills I learned in karate have shaped my life. They have spurred me on to set high standards, to work hard, and to achieve what I set out to, on and off the dojo floor. It is these same values that I hope to give to your children.

In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my wife of 4 years, Lindsay, traveling in Europe, exercising, talking to family and friends back home in the states, and performing my own songs with my band around Copenhagen. If you like, you can check out my music at josephcoker.com or myspace.com/josephcoker.

I look forward to working with your child soon and wish you all the best.

Regards,

Sensei Joseph Coker
